Material
- DIN 2605 – This standard is for butt-welded pipe fittings, typically used for connecting and joining pipes of different diameters and materials. It covers a range of pipe fittings such as elbows, tees, reducers, and caps. The material used is often:
- Carbon steel: Materials such as St 37.0, St 44.0, and St 52.0.
- Alloy steels: For higher pressure and temperature applications, grades like 15Mo3 and 13CrMo4-5 are commonly used.
- Stainless steel: Grades like 1.4401 (AISI 316) and 1.4301 (AISI 304) are also utilized for corrosion resistance.
- DIN 2617 – This standard is for pipe fittings made of forged steel. It applies to fittings such as elbows, tees, and reducers. The materials for these fittings include:
- Carbon steel: Common grades are St 35.8, St 45.8, and St 52.0.
- Alloy steels: Materials like 1.5415 (P91) and 16Mo3 are often used for high-temperature applications.
Pressure Classes
DIN 2605:
- PN 6: Suitable for low-pressure applications (6 bar).
- PN 10: Suitable for moderate-pressure applications (10 bar).
- PN 16: Suitable for higher pressure applications (16 bar).
- PN 25: Suitable for higher pressure applications (25 bar).
DIN 2617:
- PN 16: Suitable for moderate pressure systems.
- PN 25: Suitable for systems requiring medium-high pressure resistance.
- PN 40: Suitable for higher pressure applications.
- PN 63: Suitable for high-pressure systems (up to 63 bar).
Tolerance
DIN 2605 (Elbow Fittings)
DIN 2605 specifies the dimensional tolerances for elbow fittings. These include:
Outer Diameter (OD):
- The outer diameter of elbows typically follows the same tolerances as the corresponding pipe.
- For pipes up to DN 100 (nominal diameter), the tolerance is generally ±1.0 mm.
- For larger pipes, tolerances might increase, typically ±2.0 mm or more, depending on the size.
Wall Thickness:
- The wall thickness of elbow fittings is typically subject to a tolerance of ±10% of the nominal thickness.
Length (Center to Center of Curvature):
- The length tolerance of elbows typically varies based on the size but is usually within ±5 mm for most standard sizes.
Angle:
- Elbows are usually manufactured to specified angles, such as 90°, 45°, or 180°. The tolerance on the angle is usually ±1°.
Radius:
- The radius tolerance for elbows is typically ±1.5% to ±2.0% of the nominal radius.
DIN 2617 (Pipe Fittings)
DIN 2617 covers a broader range of pipe fittings like tees, reducers, and couplings. The tolerances here are similar but depend on the specific type of fitting.
Outer Diameter (OD):
- Similar to DIN 2605, the outer diameter of fittings follows the tolerances for the associated pipe. For pipes up to DN 100, this is generally ±1.0 mm.
- For larger sizes, the tolerance increases to ±2.0 mm.
Wall Thickness:
- The tolerance on the wall thickness for fittings in DIN 2617 is typically ±10% of the nominal thickness.
Length (Overall Length):
- For most fittings (like tees, reducers), the tolerance on overall length is around ±5 mm, though this may vary based on specific fitting types.
Angle and Radius:
- For items like elbows in DIN 2617, the tolerance on angles and radii is similar to that in DIN 2605 (±1° for angles and ±1.5% to ±2.0% for radii).
Threaded Fittings:
- If the fitting is threaded, DIN 2617 will specify tolerances for the thread size, which would follow typical ISO thread standards (e.g., ISO 228-1 for pipe threads), with tolerances for pitch diameter and tolerance classes.
General Tolerances (Pipe Fittings)
- Length: ±5 mm (for standard fittings).
- Diameter: ±1.0 mm for smaller sizes (up to DN 100), ±2.0 mm for larger sizes.
- Thickness: ±10% for wall thickness.
- Angle: ±1° (for elbows).
