Description
EN 1.4539 Stainless Steel
EN 1.4539, also known as Stainless Steel 904L, is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance and excellent mechanical properties. This material is widely used in highly corrosive environments and aggressive chemical processing industries due to its superior resistance to acids, chlorides, and seawater. Classified under the material number 1.4539 and UNS N08904, EN 1.4539 is a non-stabilized austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content and a high alloy composition, including significant amounts of nickel and molybdenum.
Key Features of EN 1.4539 / 904L Stainless Steel
-
Excellent Corrosion Resistance
EN 1.4539 offers outstanding resistance to a wide range of corrosive media, including sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and acetic acid. Its high molybdenum (4.5%) and nickel (around 24-26%) content enhances its resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. -
High Resistance to Chloride Attack
Unlike conventional austenitic stainless steels, EN 1.4539 exhibits superior resistance to chloride-induced corrosion, making it suitable for use in marine environments and saltwater applications. -
Non-Magnetic and High Purity
As an austenitic grade, 1.4539 is non-magnetic in nature and features a clean surface finish and high formability, which makes it ideal for high-purity applications in pharmaceutical and food processing industries. -
Weldability and Formability
EN 1.4539 can be easily welded using conventional welding methods. It also exhibits excellent formability and can be shaped or fabricated into complex designs without the risk of cracking or brittleness.
