Description
ASTM A283 Carbon Steel Plate
ASTM A283 is a standard specification for low and intermediate tensile strength carbon steel plates used in structural applications. It covers four grades: A, B, C, and D, each with varying mechanical properties and chemical compositions.
Key Features of ASTM A283 Steel Plates
- Grades: ASTM A283 steel plates come in grades A, B, C, and D. The grade determines the mechanical properties and suitability for specific applications.
- Strength: ASTM A283 steel plates are strong, with a yield strength of 65 ksi (380-550 MPa).
- Formability: ASTM A283 steel plates have a % elongation of 23-25%.
- Joining: ASTM A283 steel plates can be joined using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and oxyacetylene welding. They can also be bolted and riveted.
- Corrosion resistance: ASTM A283 steel plates have good corrosion resistance. Galvanized ASTM 283 will rust more slowly.
- Chemistry: ASTM A283 steel is a “plain” steel without expensive alloying elements.
- Cost: ASTM A283 steel plates are relatively low cost.
