What is SSAW Pipe?
SSAW Pipe, also known as Helical Welded Pipe, is manufactured using the spiral submerged arc welding process. In this process, hot-rolled steel coils are spirally formed into a pipe shape and welded internally and externally using a double-sided submerged arc welding technique. This spiral formation allows the pipe to have a larger diameter and withstand high levels of stress, making it ideal for long-distance transportation of fluids and gases.
SSAW Pipe Manufacturing Process
- Uncoiling and Flattening: Steel coils are uncoiled and leveled.
- Edge Milling: Coil edges are trimmed and beveled to ensure accurate welding.
- Forming: The steel is spiral-formed into a pipe shape.
- Internal & External Welding: Double-sided submerged arc welding is carried out for structural integrity.
- Ultrasonic & Radiographic Testing: Non-destructive testing to detect weld flaws.
- Hydrostatic Testing: Pressure test to ensure leak-proof performance.
- Coating & Marking: Pipes are coated, marked, and prepared for dispatch.
