What is UNI Flange 1400?
The Uni Flange 1400 is a mechanical joint restraining gland designed to provide secure and flexible connections for ductile iron pipelines. Originally developed to enhance joint restraint in seismic zones, this product has a proven track record of withstanding significant seismic events, including earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 in 1983 and 7.8 in 1993.
Key Features:
- Wedge Action Mechanism: Incorporates individually actuated wedges around the pipe’s circumference. When tightened, these wedges lock onto the pipe surface, preventing separation while allowing controlled flexibility.
- Auto-Tork Actuating Screws: Equipped with break-away heads that twist off at the recommended torque, ensuring proper installation. The remaining hex head allows for future maintenance or removal if necessary.
- High-Pressure Capabilities: Rated for working pressures up to 350 PSI for sizes 3″ through 16″ and 250 PSI for sizes 18″ through 48″, with a minimum 2:1 safety factor.
- Versatility: Compatible with standard mechanical joint bells conforming to ANSI/AWWA C111/A21.11, eliminating the need for special factory-fabricated parts.
- Corrosion Resistance: All parts are coated with Armorguard E-Coat-applied epoxy, providing robust protection against corrosion.
